Deborah Barnes is the author of The Chronicles of Zee & Zoey – A Journey of the Extraordinarily Ordinary, a book that was inspired by the relationship she shares with her family of seven cats (now eight, thanks to a cat she rescued from a Pet Supermarket) and lessons learned from them after a life changing event in 2009. She is also the creator of the award-winning blog, Zee & Zoey’s Chronicle Connection, which not only continues to follow the everyday journey she shares with her cats, but covers topics from the humorous behaviors of cats to very serious subjects on pet responsibility.
While her first work was not published until 2011, Deborah has a background in marketing and has been writing for over 20 years in various capacities. Her current circle of works has brought her to where she is today – a serious cat advocate and Secretary of the newly created Pawsitively Humane Nonprofit organization of Miami, Florida, whose mission is to create public awareness and reduce the numbers of animals on the streets and in shelters through an extensive educational campaign.
Full Name: Deborah Barnes

Where You Can Find Me on the Internet: My website, YouTube book trailer, Zazzle boutique, Facebook, Twitter
What I Do for a Living: I am an Executive Assistant by day for a manufacturing company. During stolen moments at lunch, as well as nights, weekends, holidays, and any other “free” minute I can find, I am an author, blogger, and extreme cat advocate.
What I Do for Fun: Read, garden, crochet, play board games with the family, and Photoshop stuff on my cats.
The Furry Members of My Household Are: Mr. Jazz, Harley, Zee, Zoey, Peanut, Mia, Rolz, and Kizmet
My Favorite Things to Write About Are: Cat behavior, cat humor, the feline-human bond, spay/neuter, feral cats, TNR, anything to do with reducing cat overpopulation, and reflective articles about today’s society.
My Pet Peeves Are: I’ve never had a pet peeve. Where do you get one? I’ve had cats, dogs, rabbits, frogs, guinea pigs, and hamsters … do they count?
My Guilty Pleasures Are: Watching reality TV and eating popcorn for dinner when my fiancé is out of town on business.
How I Deal with Cat/Dog Hair: I incorporate it as part of my outfit – why do you think I have a Bengal and always wear leopard print?
What I Want to Be When I Grow Up: I don’t know that I’ll ever grow up, but if I had my true dream come true, I would have a life that allowed me to concentrate all of my efforts to making the world a better place for cats. I would love to have a large lot of land for a cat sanctuary and I would have a lovely office overlooking a beautiful garden where I could write more books and articles about cats.
